Veterinary Office Assistant

The Position:

The office assistant is the in-office face of the practice who supports clients face-to-face and via telephone, text message and email, with scheduling routine and urgent appointments, prescription refills and client education. The office assistant maintains ongoing communication with the veterinarians and veterinary assistants throughout the day.

• Excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with an eye for detail and accuracy

• Flexible, adaptive, enthusiastic personality; capable dealing with regularly changing priorities and schedules

• Comfortable working independently in both quiet and highly distractive environments

• Polite team player with excellent customer service skills

• Ability to remain calm in stressful and urgent situations

• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, and handle delicate situations with maturity and empathy

• Willing to learn from our experienced staff and motivated to take on new challenges and roles in which they develop an interest

• Horse experience

Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

• Telephone, email, and front desk reception

• Appointment booking

• A broad knowledge of equine veterinary procedures and products

• Invoicing and receiving payment for services

• Maintain continued communication with veterinarians throughout the day

• Ability to function in an electronic medical records environment; Medical record entry and maintenance

• General administrative duties as needed

• Prescription preparation

• Laboratory duties

What we offer:

• Hours: 20-30 hours / week with the possibility of full-time hours in the future

• Pay: Start at $18/hour with regular raises with experience and responsibilities

• Benefits for P/T position: Medical and reduced veterinary fees

• Benefits for F/T position: Extensive Medical and Dental, reduced veterinary fees
