April: Finity – Juvenile Cataract

Finity was 4 years old when his owner noticed what looked like a white, cloudy object in the lens of one of his eyes. The cornea itself looked healthy and intact, and the eye was not swollen, sore, or weeping. However, as days passed, the owner started to recognize unusual spooking, especially when Finity was traveling through light changes. After an extensive ophthalmic exam and consultation with an equine ophthalmologist, Finity was diagnosed with Juvenile Cataracts. It was crucial to detect this rare disease early so intervention and treatment was able to begin immediately and prevent uncontrolled and quick deterioration of the otherwise healthy eye. Currently, Finity’s eye is stable with thanks to close monitoring and medication.
