August: Commander – Kick in the Mouth

When Commander was pulled out of the field, his owner quickly noticed blood around his mouth. Upon further inspection, she discovered that he had been kicked in the mouth by his field mate and had a broken maxillary bone with several dangling incisors. The loose teeth were extracted and thankfully Commander was still in good spirits and was happy to eat his dinner. Careful monitoring and daily flushing of his mouth has resulted in a bit of a funny smile, but a healthy and happy horse. In the future regular dental work will be required to maintain the opposing incisors.
